Music

I probably take music a little too seriously. Some evidence: (i) I find High Fidelity an extremely funny novel (the movie is funny, too), even as bits of it hit a little too close to home for comfort; (ii) too much of my disposable income is spent on music; (iii) I've bothered to set up this page to let you know what records I've recently found satisfying and what I'm listening to a lot right now, even as I don't see why you would care. For faster downloading, the stuff is divided into four categories (though I'm not sure why this particular classification makes sense to me). (Throughout, "COID" means "Check Out If Doubtful".)

C A T C H Y   S T U F F

G L O O M Y   S T U F F

An umbrella category for anything from raunchy garage punk to sensitive chamber pop.

Varieties of the darker sides of life, from self-immolating impulses to late-night chats with a friend named Jack Daniels.

Q U I R K Y   S T U F F

M U S I C   S T A P L E S

This stuff strives to resist categorization . . .
So let's give it a category of its own.

Music diet staples are so called because of their role in sustaining coherence and continuity in a music diet, some by offering essential nutrients, others by offering the musical equivalent of comfort food. They keep you going when nothing new seems worth listening. Here are some of mine.
