Majors and Minors

UC Davis Department of Philosophy offers a major leading to a baccalaureate, as well as curricula tailored for students planning to advance to professional studies in law or medicine, and offers a minor that complements all other UC Davis majors. The department also administers the interdisciplinary Cognitive Science program.

Philosophy Major

The major in Philosophy emphasizes an analytic approach to philosophical questions, which trains students to understand and evaluate arguments and to think and write precisely and clearly.

Philosophy Minor

The Philosophy department offers a minor course of study, which may be completed in conjunction with any other major.

Pre-law and Pre-med Studies

These new emphases within the philosophy major are designed to prepare students for entry into law school or medical school.

Cognitive Science Major

Cognitive Science, among some of the newest majors that UC Davis offers, encompasses courses from the departments of Philosophy, Psychology, Linguistics and Statistics.
