The most recent biennial meeting of the International Society for the History Philosophy and Social Studies of Biology (ISHPSSB) was held in Toronto in July 2023. It featured a special session dedicated to UC Davis Distinguished Professor Emeritus James R Griesemer. 

Speakers from around the world recognized Griesemer’s seminal contributions to understanding reproduction, cultural evolution, model systems, the role of theories, abstraction, visualizations and diagrams, data practices, origins of life, epigenetics, and many other topics.
